Water Damage: It takes only ONE drop of water on the 'brains' (circuit board)
of your mobile phone to 'kill' it. That one drop can short-circuit the electronics, and
fuse the parts so it no longer works. One drop of water, one dead phone.
That means that whether you are a rambler out on the hills, or a town stroller
with your mobile phone in your bag, your phone could be at serious risk unless you ...
a) insure your mobile phone for water damage - something not always covered for in many
insurance policies
b) keep your mobile phone in a water proof case - not impossible, but can be a little
bulky.
c) there is also a waterproof spray that can be applied to the 'brains' to
protect it. This needs to be done by an expert and is not widely available in
the phone stores.
It is amazing we have the technology to enable us to talk from the middle of the
Salisbury Plains to the Scottish Highlands, yet one drop of rain can destroy
that expensive piece of kit.
We have anecdotal proofs for you to show this;
1. One of our colleagues was cycling through the streets of London with their
phone in their bag. It started to rain. By the time she got to her destination,
less than a 20 minute ride, the phone 'brains' had been water damaged, and no
longer worked. One dead phone.
2. The editor dropped his phone by accident ... down the loo. Needless to say,
it was D.E.A.D.
Beware - some insurance policies claim to cover
accidental damage, yet
when you make a claim for your water damaged phone, they will say that the
mobile
is "beyond economical repair". In plain English, that translates as "it is not
worth our while repairing it". Yet you don't care. You paid for your insurance.
You just want your phone back and working. But unless they expressly cover water
damage to your phone, you need to be aware that they most probably will not! That is why you
may need water damage cover AND accidental damage cover.
So Water Damage is an important criteria in looking for your mobile phone
insurance.
